What Is Daiso in Korea?
If you spend even a few days in Korea, there’s a good chance you’ll come across a Daiso.
At first, Daiso in Korea might look like a simple discount store filled with inexpensive household goods. But in everyday Korean life, it’s much more than that.
I go to Daiso whenever I need something small without making a trip to a large supermarket. There have even been weeks when I went three or four times. I might spend around 10,000 won on a small trip, but when I have a longer list, I can easily end up spending close to 50,000 won.
So if you visit Daiso during a trip to Korea, you don’t necessarily have to think of it as a tourist attraction or souvenir shop.
It’s better understood as an everyday store where you can see the kinds of household supplies, inexpensive cosmetics, stationery, and small items people in Korea actually buy.

What Can You Buy at Daiso in Korea?
It’s actually difficult to describe Daiso with just one product category because it sells so many different things.
You’ll find kitchen supplies, bathroom products, cleaning supplies, storage items, stationery, travel accessories, snacks, cosmetics, fashion accessories, and seasonal products.
In some ways, it can feel like a tiny department store built around inexpensive everyday products.
But I wouldn’t go there expecting department-store quality.
For many people in Korea, Daiso is especially useful for things that simply don’t need to be expensive or for consumable items that need to be replaced regularly.
That’s how I use it too. I often buy things like disposable kitchen bags, cotton swabs, and other everyday supplies that I don’t feel the need to spend much money on.
Some products may not be as durable or well-finished as more expensive alternatives, so if you need something to last for years, it’s worth looking at the product carefully before buying it.
How Cheap Is Daiso in Korea?
One of the most distinctive things about Daiso is its simple pricing system.
As of September 2026, Daiso’s official pricing system in Korea has six fixed price points:
500 won / 1,000 won / 1,500 won / 2,000 won / 3,000 won / 5,000 won
That means the highest standard price point is currently 5,000 won.
This is one reason people sometimes check Daiso before buying a basic household item somewhere else. Something that feels unnecessarily expensive at a supermarket or another store may have a much cheaper alternative here.
That’s one of the reasons I visit so often.
For disposable products, small everyday items, or things I won’t be too upset about replacing if they break, Daiso is usually one of the first places I check.
I also like that I don’t have to wait for a special sale period. The pricing is straightforward.
The Section I Shop Most These Days: Cosmetics
Daiso used to make me think mostly of household supplies.
These days, though, one of the sections I check most often is the beauty section.
That’s one area where Daiso in Korea feels quite different from what it used to be. You can now find a growing range of skincare and makeup products, including collaborations with Korean beauty brands.
And for me, the biggest difference is still the price.
At a regular cosmetics store, there isn’t much you can buy with just 5,000 won. At Daiso, there are plenty of beauty products within that price range.
The product size can sometimes be surprisingly similar to what you would expect from regular beauty products, while the price can be several times lower.
That makes it an easy place to try something new without spending much.
Of course, I wouldn’t assume that a cosmetic product is automatically good just because it’s popular or inexpensive. Since skincare and makeup go directly on your skin, it’s still worth checking the ingredients, instructions, and whether the product suits your skin.
Daiso Can Be Surprisingly Useful During a Korea Trip
Daiso isn’t useful to travelers only because of souvenirs.
It can be even more helpful when you suddenly realize you forgot something.
Travel containers, zip bags, pouches, charging accessories, umbrellas, toiletries, slippers, and simple stationery are the kinds of things you may unexpectedly need during a trip.
Instead of spending much more on something you’ll only use temporarily, you can often find a basic alternative at Daiso.
Depending on the location, you may also find cosmetics, snacks, character goods, and seasonal products.
That means you can walk in because you need one practical item and end up browsing several completely different sections.
One important thing to know, though, is that not every Daiso carries exactly the same products.
The selection and inventory can vary by store. So if you saw a specific viral product on TikTok or Instagram, don’t assume every location will have it in stock.
Can You Buy Korean Souvenirs at Daiso?
Yes, but I would think of them as small, inexpensive gifts rather than replacements for traditional Korean crafts or specialty souvenirs.
Depending on the season and store, you may find character goods, Korean-inspired designs, stationery, pouches, keychains, snacks, and other small items that are easy to pack.
This can be especially useful toward the end of a trip when you suddenly realize you need several little gifts for friends, coworkers, or family members.
Instead of deciding exactly what to buy before you go, I think Daiso is more fun when you simply browse and see what that particular store has.
Do You Need to Visit a Famous Daiso Location?
Not necessarily.
Daiso isn’t a store designed only for tourists. It’s an everyday shop that local residents use too.
Especially around Seoul and the greater metropolitan area, there are plenty of locations. From my own experience living here, I usually don’t need to drive for hours to find one. There are often locations I can reach within about 10 or 20 minutes.
When I need something, I’m much more likely to think, “I’ll check Daiso,” than to wait until my next big supermarket trip.
The size of the store does matter, though.
If you only need a basic travel item or household product, the closest location will probably be enough. But if you want to browse a wider range of cosmetics, stationery, character goods, or other products, a larger store may be more interesting.
How I Decide What Is Worth Buying at Daiso
The dangerous thing about Daiso is how easy it is to put things in your basket.
One item is 1,000 won. Another is 2,000 won. Then another is 3,000 won.
Suddenly, the total isn’t quite as tiny as you expected.
This happens to me all the time. I can walk in planning to buy just a few things and easily spend more than 10,000 won.
So I don’t really think of Daiso as a place where you should buy something simply because it’s cheap.
I think of it as a place to buy things that don’t need to be expensive.
If durability and long-term quality really matter, another store may be a better choice.
But for consumables, simple kitchen or cleaning supplies, small organizers, temporary travel necessities, or things you just want to use without worrying too much about them, Daiso can be incredibly convenient.
Is Daiso Worth Visiting in Korea?
I think it’s worth stopping by at least once.
Not because it’s a spectacular tourist attraction, but because it’s such an ordinary part of everyday shopping in Korea.
You can walk in because you forgot a travel item, wander into the cosmetics section, find a snack, and leave with a small souvenir you hadn’t planned to buy.
That’s probably the most accurate way I can describe Daiso in Korea:
It’s the kind of everyday store people check first when they need something small without spending much.
And that everyday quality is exactly what makes it interesting to visit during a trip.

You can use this when you want to ask the price of an item.
At Daiso, prices are usually displayed on the product or shelf, so checking the price label first will often be easier.
Another useful phrase is:
어디에 있어요?
Romanization: Eodie isseoyo?
Easy pronunciation: Eo-di-e i-sseo-yo?
Meaning: “Where is it?”
If you’re looking for a particular product, you can also show a staff member a photo and say:
이거 어디에 있어요?
Igeo eodie isseoyo?
“Where can I find this?”
That’s a very practical phrase to remember when shopping in Korea.
